The Ruhr River is 146 miles (235 km) long and is an important right-bank tributary of the lower Rhine. It rises on the north side of Winterberg in the Sauerland at an elevation of 2,376 feet (724 metres). It flows north and then west in a deep well-wooded valley past Arnsberg.
