A gemstone (also called a fine gem, jewel, precious stone, semiprecious stone, or simply gem) is a piece of mineral crystal which, when cut or polished, is used to make jewelry or other adornments.
What Are the Four Precious Gemstones? This is the considered the most definitive precious stones list: Diamond: Transparent, pure carbon gem in any color. Ruby: Transparent red corundum. Sapphire: Transparent non-red corundum, traditionally blue. Emerald: Transparent to translucent green beryl.
