Karst’s review published on Letterboxd: I honestly can’t remember if Araki had this many shots of characters looking directly into the camera in his other work but that choice is working stronger than ever here.

Harris’s review published on Letterboxd: I respect Araki for making a film like this considering the sensitive topics it focuses on and how messy it could have been under a different filmmaker. He doesn't shy away from the mortifying subject matter at hand, but despite the explicit focus the film never feels exploitative.
Review by IHE Pro. Mysterious Skin 2004 ★★½. Watched Aug 08 , 2018. I like most of how it is shot: close, intimate and uncomfortable. It’s unflinching attempt to accurately depict the horrors of the subject matter, and the psychological results it can have on a person, are noble to say the least.
Spotless’s review published on Letterboxd: Both contrasting performances are perfect , the score is thrilling , the camera work and editing is enough to understand what’s happening without seeing it.
