Criada pela rede NBC, a série CHiPs (1977-1983) fez um enorme sucesso mostrando as aventuras de dois policiais rodoviários da Califórnia (a sigla CHIP significa California Higway Patrol), e era estrelada por Erik Strada e Larry Wilcox. Wilcox, que interpretava o oficial Jon Baker, teve na série seu papel mais famoso.
