  1. Sextant is the eleventh studio album by Herbie Hancock, released in 1973 by Columbia. It is the last album with the Mwandishi-era sextet featuring saxophonist Bennie Maupin, trumpeter Eddie Henderson, trombonist Julian Priester, bassist Buster Williams and drummer Billy Hart.

  3. Herbie moved to Columbia Records in mid-1973, and recorded Sextant, which turned out to be his last album with the Mwandishi band (although the band continued to record “ad hoc” for others into 1974). This recording (and subsequent tour) became a major turning point in Herbies career.
