The Spirit of St. Louis (formally the Ryan NYP, registration: N-X-211) is the custom-built, single-engine, single-seat, high-wing monoplane that Charles Lindbergh flew on May 20–21, 1927, on the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight from Long Island, New York, to Paris, France, for which Lindbergh won the $25,000 Orteig Prize.
Charles Lindbergh flew a Great Circle route along the curvature of the earth rather than flying directly east over the Atlantic Ocean.
6 de out. de 2020 · Charles Lindbergh became the first pilot with solo flight to cross the Atlantic Ocean (Transatlantic Flight), flying a distance of 5,800 kilometers from New York to Paris in 33.5 hours alone, with his plane named Spirit of St. Louis on 20-21 May 1927.
18 de mai. de 2022 · It was on this day, 95 years ago, that Charles Lindberg landed at Paris Le Bourget Aerodrome at 10.22pm, becoming the first person to fly solo non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean.
Only Lindbergh planned to fly alone in a single-engine plane. Later the single-engine Bellanca was registered, but it too would have multiple pilots. In spite of his flight experience and military training, some even called the young aviator a “flying fool”.
