From 1920 until 1946, Hungary was de jure a monarchy under a regent but de facto a republic with a Prime Minister heading the executive branch of government.
The Kingdom of Hungary (Hungarian: Magyar Királyság), sometimes just Hungary, was a monarchy in Central Europe that existed for nearly a thousand years between 1000 and 1918. It came back during the Interwar period from 1920 to 1944 as a regency. It was created when Stephen I of Hungary was crowned in Esztergom in the year 1000.
