Orde Charles Wingate (born Feb. 26, 1903, Naini Tāl, India—died March 24, 1944, Burma [now Myanmar]) was a British soldier, an outstanding “irregular” commander and unconventional personage in the tradition of General Charles George Gordon and Colonel T.E. Lawrence (“Lawrence of Arabia”).

8 de out. de 2020 · On 4 July 1941, in the midst of a malaria induced delirium, Major Orde Wingate tried to commit suicide in his room at the Continental Hotel, Cairo. He was dejected, depressed, overusing an anti-malarial drug, and physically and mentally exhausted after fighting in the East African Campaign.
Orde Wingate died in a plane crash in April 1944, but the Chindits continued to weaken Japanese forces in Burma after his death. MLA Citation/Reference "Orde Wingate".
