A health system, health care system or healthcare system is an organization of people, institutions, and resources that delivers health care services to meet the health needs of target populations. There is a wide variety of health systems around the world, with as many histories and organizational structures as there are nations.
Summary. Health systems are made up of multiple interacting components including organisations, people and actions. They perform several functions: delivering healthcare services; maintaining and improving health; protecting households from the costs of illness; enabling economic functioning; and shaping societal norms and values.
Health systems are the organizations, institutions, and resources that produce health actions for a population. They reflect the values, policies, and social determinants of health of a society and can influence health, wealth, and societal well-being.
