El Teatro del Mundo fue diseñado para el Bienal de Venecia de 1979-1980. La idea era evocar los teatros flotantes, tan característicos de la ciudad y sus carnavales, en el siglo XVIII. Se construyó en un astillero veneciano y se remolcó por mar a su sitio, en el medio del agua, donde permaneció durante la Bienal.

Este teatro foi construído em 1979, em Veneza. Quando completou os shows bienais, teatro atravessou o mar Adriático e se estabeleceram em Dubrovnik. Em 1981 foi desmantelado. Em 2004, foi reconstruída em Gênova como uma das instalações das comemorações do “Genoa Capital Europeia da Cultura”.
