Sebastian ( Latin: Sebastianus; c. AD 255 – c. AD 288) was an early Christian saint and martyr. According to traditional belief, he was killed during the Diocletianic Persecution of Christians. He was initially tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows, though this did not kill him.
According to tradition, St. Sebastian was ordered to be killed by arrows for converting his fellow Roman soldiers to Christianity. He was left for dead by the archers but was rehabilitated by a pious widow.

Believed to be dead, the archers left his body for retrieval and burial. He was recovered by Irene of Rome, whose Christian husband was a servant to Diocletian and also martyred. Irene discovered that Sebastian was still living and she hid him and nursed him back to health.
Saint Sebastian (traditionally died January 20, 287) was a Christian saint and martyr, who is said to have died during the Diocletian persecution in the late 3rd century.
He found the twin brothers Marcus and Marcellinus in prison for the faith, and, when they were near yielding to the entreaties of their relatives, encouraged them to despise flesh and blood, and to die for Christ.
Miraculously, Sebastian survived the brutal ordeal with the help of another Christian woman, Saint Irene, who nursed him back to health. Once he recovered, Sebastian boldly returned to confront and preach to Diocletian, the very emperor who had ordered his execution.
