The series was originally announced at Paramount's and Network 10's upfronts in October 2022. Subtitled Secrets & Surprises, the season featured 18 contestants, with 17 new to the show.

The fifteenth season of MasterChef Australia, also known as MasterChef Australia: Secrets & Surprises, premiered on May 7 2023 on Network 10.
Andy Allen, Melissa Leong, & Jock Zonfrillo returned to the show as judges while Shannon Bennett returned as mentor.
It was intended to premiere on May 1, 2023. Following Zonfrillo's death on 30 April 2023, a day before the season premiere, it was confirmed that the show's premiere had been postponed and would no longer air during the week as scheduled. The premiere date change to May 7, 2023.
Season 13 contestant Brent Draper won against administration manager Rhiannon Anderson on July 16 2023.
•18 Contestants & Audition Broadcasted: This season, the number of contestant reduced from 24 to 18. Like the previous season, the season omitted the broadcast of the audition stage.
•This season saw a secret or surprise revealed to the contestants in every episode.
•Second Chance Apron: The Second Chance Apron, won by Larissa Sewell, kept this secret from the rest of the contestants. It allowed the contestant to come back from elimination and compete for re-entry at the next elimination challenge.
•Team Challenge & Immunity Challenge: Weekly team challenge winners had a chance to win an immunity pin by winning a cook-off against a professional chef. The winner was determined with a blind tasting by the judges.

Returning for its 15th season, MasterChef Australia is back to deliver a series full of twists and turns with Secrets & Surprises. Originally scheduled to premiere 1 May 2023, the series was postponed due to the sudden passing of judge Jock Zonfrillo the night before.
