19 de out. de 2023 · Compact discs (CDs) store data in the form of tiny indentations on a smooth surface. A CD player uses a laser beam to read these indentations and convert them into digital data. However, scratches on the surface of the CD can cause the laser beam to scatter, making it difficult for the CD player to read the data correctly.

17 de fev. de 2022 · How CDs use optical laser technology. Until CDs were invented, music was typically stored on vinyl (plastic) LP (long-playing) records and cassette tapes. LPs scratched easily, while tapes could stretch and distort and sometimes snapped or seized up entirely. Both of these ways of storing music were primitive compared to CDs.
The story of the CD started way back in 1957 with experiments involving the rudimentary video disc by the Italian Antonio Rubbiani, that stimulated an entire generation of scientists to think along the lines of digital technology.
