It was devised by the International Phonetic Association in the late 19th century as a standardized representation of speech sounds in written form.
Therefore a chart made primarily with the IPA Kiel character set best represents the symbols of the IPA. Our use of this font is allowed under our font embedding license. The 2015 chart makes minor changes to wording and layout, but otherwise reproduces the appearance of the 2005 chart.
