  1. The brilliant reigns of the Kangxi (r. 1662–1722) and Qianlong (r. 1736–95) emperors display a period when the Manchus embraced Chinese cultural traditions and the court became a leading patron in the arts as China enjoyed an extended period of political stability and economic prosperity.

  2. Paintings. One of the earliest known paintings by Castiglione in China in a blend of Chinese and European styles, 1723. In the late 17th century, a number of European Jesuit painters served in the Qing court of the Kangxi Emperor who was interested in employing European Jesuits trained in various fields, including painting.

  3. Hūndé Gōng. Emperor Huizong of Song (7 June 1082 – 4 June 1135), personal name Zhao Ji, was the eighth emperor of the Song dynasty of China and the penultimate emperor of the Northern Song dynasty. He was also a very well-known painter, poet and calligrapher.

  5. The Qianlong emperor was the most energetic of royal art patrons since Huizong of the Song, building an imperial collection of more than 4,000 pre-Qing paintings and calligraphy and cataloging them in successive editions of the Shiqubaoji.

He established the “ Hanlin Huayuan ” (翰林畫院, the imperial painting academy), where the best painters all over China share their best works. His era name of Xuanhe (宣和) was also used to describe a style of mounting paintings in scroll format.
