The Gladstone Family. Sir John Gladstone. William Ewart Gladstone, one of Liverpool’s greatest sons, was born in Rodney Street in 1809, the son of John Gladstone, who was one of the largest British slave owners on his estates in Jamaica and Demerara.
William Ewart Gladstone was born on 29 December 1809 at Rodney Street, Liverpool. He was the fourth son and fifth child of a family of six born to Sir John Gladstone and his wife Anne Mackenzie Robertson.
