The historic Frick mansion was commissioned by Henry Clay Frick in 1913 from the architecture firm Carrère and Hastings. Frick always envisioned the building would become a public resource dedicated to “encouraging and developing the study of the fine arts, and of advancing the general knowledge of kindred subjects,” as he wrote in his will.
