  1. 7 de fev. de 2020 · Abstract. We summarize the development, structure, different neural types and neural circuitry in the human fovea. The foveal pit is devoid of rod photoreceptors and of secondary and tertiary neurons, allowing light to directly stimulate cones and give us maximal visual acuity.

  2. 10 de abr. de 2024 · Abstract. In primates, high-acuity vision is mediated by the fovea, a small specialized central region of the retina. The fovea, unique to the anthropoid lineage among mammals, undergoes notable neuronal morphological changes during postnatal maturation.

  3. 17 de jun. de 2020 · We used high-throughput single-cell RNA-seq to generate a cell atlas of the adult human retina. From 55,736 foveal and 29,246 peripheral retinal cells, we identified 58 cell types. We then used ...

  4. The structure of the fovea. The fovea has unique anatomical and physiological specializations [ 3] presenting both special challenges, and certain advantages for vision restoration. The fovea is avascular and foveal cones are slender and densely packed relative to their peripheral counterparts.

  5. 1 de ago. de 2011 · The relationship between foveal abnormalities in albinism and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) is unclear. High-resolution spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD OCT) was used to quantify foveal retinal layer thicknesses and to assess the functional significance of foveal morphologic features in patients with albinism.

  6. 2 de fev. de 2022 · One carcinogenesis process is intestinal type: Persistent inflammation can increase the damage of the proper gastric glands followed by atrophy, IM, dysplasia and adenocarcinoma. The other is gastric type: The metaplasia of foveal epithelium occurs and resists the repeated inflammatory stimulation.

  7. Foveal specializations include a very high density of cone photoreceptors with displacement of inner retina neurons, as well as their vascular support, hundreds of microns away from the foveal center. The most central cones are located in the foveola, a 350 μm rod-free region comprising the floor of the foveal depression [1].
