Taejo of Joseon (4 November 1335 – 27 June 1408) was the first king of the Joseon dynasty. His given name was Yi Seong-gye ( Hangul: 이성계; Hanja: 李成桂 ). He changed his name to Yi Dan ( Hangul: 이단; Hanja: 李旦) after he became king. He ruled Korea from 1392 to 1398.
The Veritable Records of the Joseon Dynasty are the Veritable Records of Joseon, the last royal house to rule Korea. Kept from 1392 to 1865, the annals (or sillok) comprise 1,893 volumes and are thought to be the longest continual documentation of a single dynasty in the world.
