  2. Owen Brown (February 16, 1771 – May 8, 1856), father of abolitionist John Brown, was a wealthy cattle breeder and land speculator who operated a successful tannery in Hudson, Ohio. He was also a fervent abolitionist and civil servant, stout [clarification needed] and outspoken.

  3. Owen Brown is buried on the summit of an Altadena hill named “Little Round Top” after the heroic stand by Union troops at the Battle of Gettysburg. He was the last survivor of the 1859 raid on the U.S. Armory at Harpers Ferry, Virginia, led by his father, John Brown, who hoped to spark an insurrection to end American slavery.

  4. Owen Brown was born November 8, 1824, in Hudson, Ohio, to John Brown and Dianthe Lusk, their fourth child. He was named after John Brown’s father, an early abolitionist and pioneer of Ohio. Owen’s mother later died while giving birth to a seventh sibling.
