Vernon County is located in the western region of the U.S. state of Missouri, on the border with Kansas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,707. [1] Its county seat is Nevada. [2] The county was organized on February 27, 1855, considerably later than counties in the eastern part of the state. [3]
Nevada is located in the Southwest portion of the State of Missouri. Originally called Nevada City, the community grew out of the municipal organization of Vernon County and was chosen as the county seat in 1855.
Nevada is the 7th-most extensive, the 32nd-most populous, and the 9th-least densely populated of the U.S. states. Nearly three-quarters of Nevada's people live in Clark County, which contains the Las Vegas–Paradise metropolitan area, including three of the state's four largest incorporated cities.
The History of Nevada as a state began when it became the 36th state on October 31, 1864, after telegraphing the Constitution of Nevada to the Congress days before the November 8 presidential election (the largest and costliest transmission ever by telegraph).
