    The inside covers of Japanese volumes up until Volume 22 feature an image, resembling an old scroll and featuring a scene apparently set around the time of the Eldian exodus to Paradis Island. The image includes pieces of writing of the walls telling some of the history of the humans between the Walls. The text roughly translates as follows:

    From Volume 23 onward, the image changes so as to depict several Wall Titans marching forward and leaving huge footprints on the ground beneath, foreshadowing the Rumbling.
