A label on the reverse, in German, identifies the sitter as the consort of Ernst Friedrich of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha who was Princess Sophie Antoinette of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1724-1802). However, the sitter bears a closer resemblance to her mother, Antoinette of BrunswickWolfenbüttel (1696-1762).
