Formed in 1997 as the Coalition of Modern Universities, the name was changed in 2004 to the Campaign for Mainstream Universities. In November 2007, the organisation was rebranded to million+. This name was chosen to reflect the fact that the member institutions educate over a million students.
Coalition of Urban Serving Universities. The Coalition of Urban Serving Universities (commonly referred to as USU) is a selective organization of 39 U.S. public, research universities located in metropolitan areas. The USU member schools began formally meeting in 2005. [1]

Since 1990, the organization has published Metropolitan Universities journal, a scholarly publication addressing the issues facing urban and metropolitan-serving institutions. As of 2016, the journal has been published entirely online as an open-access publication. The journal is hosted and supported by the IUPUI University Library.

In 1995, the organization changed its name to the Coalition for Christian Colleges and Universities; in 1999 it changed again to the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. In 2023, CCCU had 185 members in 21 countries.
