The university's mascot is Brutus Buckeye. "THE" is the official trademark of the Ohio State University merchandise. Led by its gridiron program, the Buckeyes have the largest overall sports endowment of any campus in North America.

5 de set. de 2014 · A Buckeye mascot first appeared at Ohio State's homecoming game in 1965, but he didn't receive a name until two weeks later. Brutus-- as we know him today-debuted in 1998. The first mascot was simply a paper-mache buckeye with a face and two (human) legs.
Keith Burkes was the first Black person to be Brutus Buckeye, the Ohio State mascot, from 1974 to 1977. He expanded Brutus’ appearances, added fur to the costume and became a flight attendant and a state nut.
