Baden-Württemberg (/ ˌ b ɑː d ən ˈ v ɜːr t ə m b ɜːr ɡ / BAH-dən VURT-əm-burg, German: [ˌbaːdn̩ ˈvʏʁtəmbɛʁk] ⓘ), commonly shortened to BW or BaWü, is a German state (Land) in Southwest Germany, east of the Rhine, which forms the southern part of Germany's western border with France.
Le Bade-Wurtemberg est issu de la fusion en 1952 de trois Länder institués en 1945 par les Alliés à l’issue de la Seconde Guerre mondiale : le Land de Wurtemberg-Bade, occupé par les Américains, le Land de Bade et le Land de Wurtemberg-Hohenzollern, tous deux occupés par les forces françaises.
Together with Baden and Hohenzollern, two other historical territories, Württemberg now forms the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. Württemberg was formerly also spelled Würtemberg and Wirtemberg .
