Vincent Joseph Scully Jr. (August 21, 1920 – November 30, 2017) [1] was an American art historian who was a Sterling Professor of the History of Art in Architecture at Yale University, and the author of several books on the subject.

Scully Jr., Sterling Professor Emeritus of the Arts, one of the nation’s most influential and respected architectural historians, and a legendary and beloved teacher to generations of Yale students died of complications of Parkinson’s disease on Nov. 30 at his home in Lynchburg, Virginia, where he had lived for the last six years.
Vincent Scully, Sterling Professor Emeritus of the History of Art and Architecture, died at 97 in Lynchburg, VA, on November 30 th. A historian, critic, and lecturer of enormous influence, Scully was the author of more than 20 books.
