August William Derleth (February 24, 1909 – July 4, 1971) was an American writer and anthologist. He was the first book publisher of the writings of H. P. Lovecraft.

August Derleth was born 24 February 1909, in Sauk City, a small, largely German village, pleasantly situated on the west bank of the Wisconsin River in south central Wisconsin, one of two children of William Julius and Rose Louise (Volk) Derleth, who were, respectively, of French-Bavarian and Prussian-Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry.
Though best remembered as Howard Phillips Lovecraft 's literary executor and for his own contributions to the Cthulhu Mythos genre of horror, Derleth was a prolific writer in several genres, including historical fiction and detective fiction.
