Isaac Robert Cruikshank, sometimes known as Robert Cruikshank (27 September 1789 – 13 March 1856), was a caricaturist, illustrator and portrait miniaturist, the less well-known brother of George Cruikshank, both sons of Isaac Cruikshank.
30 de abr. de 2021 · Book illustrator and cartoonist Robert Cruikshank (1789-1856) produced this image of a cholera patient as a companion to A Cholera Doctor c.1832. His ‘Random Shots’ were priced at 3 pence (roughly 85p today). The first recorded case of cholera in England occurred in Sunderland, 23 October 1831.
Sitter in 2 portraits. Artist associated with 32 portraits. The elder brother of the satirical artist, George Cruikshank , Robert first studied art under his father, Isaac Cruikshank. During the Napoleonic wars, he served in the merchant navy after which he returned to his artistic career.
On display in the exhibition Cats on the Page at the British Library is the pamphlet The Pretty, playful, tortoise-shell cat published in 1817. The illustrator is probably the caricaturist and portrait painter Isaac Robert Cruikshank, often known professionally as just Robert Cruikshank.
1 de dez. de 2010 · Robert Cruikshank (1789–1856) was born in London and after a brief commission in the East India Company he returned to the capital where he became a book illustrator and cartoonist. Although not as successful an artist as his father Isaac or his brother George, with whom he often collaborated, he was equally adept at ridiculing topical events.
