Hermann Fidel Winterhalter (23 September 1808 – 24 February 1891) was a German painter, younger brother of the portrait painter Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805–73).
Hermann Fidel Winterhalter was born in Menzenschwand, in the Black Forest, in southwest Germany near the French and Swiss borders. His gift for art echoed that of his older brother and he was encouraged by the family to develop the talent as a profession.

Description. Hermann was Franz Xaver’s younger brother and assistant as well as a painter in his own right, who had studied in Munich and Rome. Princess Charlotte (1840-1927) was the only daughter of Leopold, King of the Belgians.
