, also called NCIS: The Cases They Can't Forget, is a six-part 2017-2019 miniseries on CBS that dealt with real life NCIS cases. Despite this, however, it is not a spinoff of NCIS or its other spinoffs NCIS: Los Angeles or NCIS: New Orleans. It is instead a spinoff of the CBS news program 48 Hours. Rocky Carroll, who portrays Director Leon Vance, acted as the narrator for the various episodes, and one of the scenes for the episodes (specifically, the episode To Catch a Killer) had Scott Bakula during the filming of The Third Man (episode) talking with former NCIS Special Agent Dwayne Swear about the latter's cold case. With the exception of the second episode (which aired on a Friday), the episodes aired on Tuesdays, and all of the episodes aired at 10 PM ET/PT.
It was renewed for a second season, with the first episode premiering at 10 PM on May 22, 2018 after the NCIS Season Fifteen finale Date With Destiny (episode). One of the episodes (specifically, the episode A Sailor's Honor) even featured clips from one of the early NCIS episodes (specifically, The Curse (episode) from Season 1) due to the Cold Case in that episode being directly based on the Cold Case covered in 48 Hours: NCIS.
