Richard Courant (Lubliniec, 8 de janeiro de 1888 — Nova Iorque, 27 de janeiro de 1972) foi um matemático do século XX. Filho mais velho de Siegmund Courant e Martha Freund, Courant pertencia a uma família de judeus.
Richard Courant (January 8, 1888 – January 27, 1972) was a German-American mathematician. He is best known by the general public for the book What is Mathematics?, co-written with Herbert Robbins. His research focused on the areas of real analysis, mathematical physics, the calculus of variations and partial differential equations.
Voltou a Alemanha (1947), mas apenas como visitante. Foi diretor do novo Institute of Mathematical Sciences (1953-1958) da New York University, o qual passou a se chamar Courant Institute (1964).
