Eberhard Jäckel ( [ˈeːbɐhaʁt ˈjɛkəl]; 29 June 1929 – 15 August 2017) was a German historian. In the 1980s, he was a principal protagonist in the Historians' Dispute ( Historikerstreit) over how to incorporate Nazi Germany and the Holocaust into German historiography and over Hitler's intentions.
Eberhard Jäckel war ein deutscher Historiker, der vor allem zum Nationalsozialismus forschte und publizierte. Von 1967 bis 1997 lehrte er als ordentlicher Professor für Neuere Geschichte an der Universität Stuttgart.

A child of the German north—he was born in Wesermünde, now part of Bremerhaven, and spent his youth there and in Hamburg Jäckel taught first.

A highly intelligent and very valuable book by one of the ablest writers on Nazism in Germany. Hitler’s world view—the intellectual system which was the dynamic force of his career—is too often omitted from the history of his movement. Jäckel has reconstructed it with great skill and scholarship.
