Ernst Johann von Biron (German: Ernst Johann von Biron; Russian: Эрнст Иоганн Бирон; (German: Bühren); 23 November [O.S. 13 November] 1690 – 29 December [O.S. 18 December] 1772) was a Duke of Courland and Semigallia (1737–1740 and 1763–1769) and briefly regent of the Russian Empire in 1740.

Ernst Johann, Reichsgraf von Biron was a German adventurer who became Duke of Courland and chief adviser to the Russian empress Anna (reigned 1730–40); he exercised extraordinary influence over Russian affairs during a period that became known as Bironovshchina.

Ernst Johann von Biron (* 23. November 1690 in Kalnzeem, Semgallen, Herzogtum Kurland und Semgallen (heute zu Lettland ); † 29. Dezember 1772 in Mitau) war Herzog von Kurland und Semgallen sowie im Jahr 1740 Regent des Russischen Kaiserreichs .
In 1735 Ernst Johann von Biron bought the Rundāle property for 42 000 thalers. The old palace was completely torn down, and the stones, bricks and even the mortar were used in the construction of the new palace.
