Leopoldo de' Medici (6 November 1617 – 10 November 1675) was an Italian cardinal, scholar, patron of the arts and Governor of Siena. He was the brother of Ferdinando II de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany .

Leopoldo de' Medici, Prince of Collectors. To mark the fourth centenary of Leopoldo's birth, the Gallerie degli Uffizi devote an exhibition to the Cardinal with some of the more significant examples of his taste in the various fields that benefited from his discerning expertise and connoisseurship.
The marble depicts Leopold de' Medici (1617-1675) in cardinal's robes, seated on a padded seat while holding a document in his hands. The work is characterised by a vigorous twisting of the body and an accurate rendering of the details of the cardinal's habit.

Da cardinale il M. tese a concentrare su di sé la gestione degli affari ecclesiastici del Granducato, anche in materia di Inquisizione, con una condotta più severa che nel periodo precedente. Tra le varie funzioni che assunse in Curia fu quella di membro della congregazione dell’Indice.
