Anne Hyde (12 March 1637 – 31 March 1671) was the first wife of James, Duke of York, who later became King James II and VII. Anne was the daughter of a member of the English gentry— Edward Hyde (later created Earl of Clarendon)—and met her future husband when they were both living in exile in the Netherlands.
Summary. T he mother of Queen Mary and Queen Anne was herself a subject, the daughter of the celebrated Lord Clarendon, and was born in 1638. She was maid of honour to the Princess of Orange during the exile of the family of Charles I., and was in Paris with her royal mistress when the Duke of York first met and loved her.

Anne Hyde, the daughter of Edward Hyde, Earl of Clarendon and Charles II's Chancellor, was the first wife of the Duke of York, later James II. She met the duke in 1656 when maid of honour to his sister, Princess Mary of Orange, and married him in 1660, after becoming pregnant.
