Julius of Brunswick-Lüneburg (also known as Julius of Braunschweig; 29 June 1528 – 3 May 1589), a member of the House of Welf, was Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and ruling Prince of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel from 1568 until his death. From 1584, he also ruled over the Principality of Calenberg.

Em 1571, o castelo e a vila de Calvörde tornaram-se parte do principado graças ao duque Júlio de Brunsvique. Em 1635, o Duque Augusto O Jovem , da linha colateral de Luneburgo-Dannenberg, assumiu as rédeas do poder no principado e fundou a Nova Casa de Brunsvique.

The Principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel ( German: Fürstentum Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel) was a subdivision of the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg, whose history was characterised by numerous divisions and reunifications. It had an area of 3,828 square kilometres in the mid 17th century. [1] .
