René Bousquet (French: [ʁəne buskɛ]; 11 May 1909 – 8 June 1993) was a high-ranking French political appointee who served as secretary general to the Vichy French police from May 1942 to 31 December 1943.
Le 8 juin 1993, René Bousquet meurt assassiné dans son domicile parisien. Haut fonctionnaire du régime de Vichy, il avait été inculpé deux années plus tôt pour crimes contre l'humanité. Son procès devait se tenir à l'automne 1993.

Born in 1909, Bousquet became a national hero after rescuing dozens of people from drowning in floods: he was awarded the Legion of Honour and rose rapidly within the government, being named sous-préfet for Vitry-le-François in 1938, and a préfet in 1940 following the French armistice with Germany.

In 1949, René Bousquet, secretary general of the French police, was found guilty for his role in the complicit Vichy government, but his sentence was immediately commuted for "having actively and sustainably participated in the resistance against the occupier."
