Rezin Pleasant Bowie (/ ˈ b uː i / BOO-ee) (September 8, 1793 – January 17, 1841) was a planter, inventor, and mercenary. He also served three terms in the Louisiana House of Representatives. With his brother James "Jim" Bowie, Rezin Bowie smuggled slaves and worked as a land speculator.
A Bowie knife (/ ˈ b uː i / BOO-ee) is a pattern of fixed-blade fighting knife created by Rezin Bowie in the early 19th century for his brother James Bowie, who had become famous for his use of a large knife at a duel known as the Sandbar Fight.

1 de ago. de 1995 · Rezin Bowie was a Louisiana planter, soldier, and inventor of the Bowie knife. He and his brothers James and Stephen owned Arcadia, a sugar plantation with a steam-powered mill, and sold it in 1831.
In the mid-1820s, Rezin Bowie, a southern land speculator and Louisiana legislator designed the original version of the famous knife and had it made by blacksmith Jesse Clifft. There were many variations of the early knife, but the picture to the left is a good example of an early Bowie style knife.
