General Sir Miles Christopher Dempsey, GBE, KCB, DSO, MC, DL (15 December 1896 – 5 June 1969) was a senior British Army officer who served in both world wars. During the Second World War he commanded the Second Army in northwest Europe.

Sir Miles Dempsey, the first senior officer of the British Army to cross the Rhine on March 23, 1945, became a celebrity in England and made the front page of the Illustrated London News on April 7, 1945.
Because of his strategic acumen, Montgomery selected Dempsey to command the 2nd Army in the invasion of Normandy, which was comprised of both Canadian and British forces.
