  4. Sir John More (c.1451 – 1530) was a respected judge, and Thomas More’s father. He was described by one of his son’s biographers as ‘very virtuous’ and ‘merry’. In the painting, he is shown listening to Margaret Giggs, who leans towards him to point out something in the book she is holding.
