Margrethe P. Rask (1930 – 12 December 1977), better known as Grethe Rask, was a Danish physician and surgeon in Zaïre (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo). After setting up her own hospital in the village of Abumombazi in 1972, she transferred to Danish Red Cross Hospital in Kinshasa in 1975.
Margrethe Rask, also known as Grethe, was a doctor who worked in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the 1970s. She was infected with HIV and died in 1980, possibly from Ebola, a virus that was unknown at the time.

Ainda assim, segundo reportagem da Superinteressante, acredita-se que um marinheiro inglês de 25 anos já havia morrido com os típicos sintomas da doença em meados de 1959.

The analyses reveal a low number of T lymphocytes.
Grethe Rask died in December 1977 from a disease which was later identified as AIDS. She was one of the first non-African patients (like Arvid Noe) to succumb to the consequences of AIDS. It seems that Dr. Rask showed symptoms of HIV at the end of 1974, e.g., fever, diarrhea, swollen lymph nodes, weight loss, and fatigue.
