Sir John Scott Burdon-Sanderson, 1st Baronet, FRS, HFRSE D.Sc. (21 December 1828 – 23 November 1905) was an English physiologist born near Newcastle upon Tyne, and a member of a well known Northumbrian family.

In the same year he was made professor of practical physiology at University College, London, and three years later succeeded Sharpey in the Jodrell chair of physiology. A new phase in his career began in 1882 when he was invited to Oxford as the first Waynflete professor of physiology.
