Ernest Bevin (9 March 1881 – 14 April 1951) was a British statesman, trade union leader and Labour Party politician. He cofounded and served as General Secretary of the powerful Transport and General Workers' Union from 1922 to 1940 and served as Minister of Labour and National Service in the wartime coalition government.
Ernest Bevin was a British trade unionist and statesman, one of the most powerful British union leaders in the first half of the 20th century. He also proved to be a forceful minister of labour and national service during World War II and foreign secretary in the immediate postwar period.

As general secretary (1922–40) of the Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU), Bevin was an organizer of the General Strike (1926). He was minister of labour and national service in Churchill's war cabinet (1940–45).
