Hilton Young was M.P. for Norwich 1915-23, and 1924-29; Financial Secretary to the Treasury 1921-22; British Representative at the Hague Conference on International Finance 1922; and went on financial missions for the British Government to India (1920), Poland (1924), and Iraq (1925 & 1930).
Baron Kennet, of the Dene in the County of Wiltshire, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1935 for the journalist and politician Sir Hilton Young. He was the youngest son of Sir George Young, 3rd Baronet, of Formosa Place. He was succeeded by his son, the second Baron. He was a writer and politician.

Placed on deposit in the University Library in 1972 and 1975, and transferred permanently in 2016, the Kennet collection includes papers of (Edward) Hilton Young (1879-1960), 1st Baron Kennet of the Dene, and also of his wife Kathleen Bruce, the sculptor, widow of Captain Robert Falcon Scott.
