He was born on 2 September 1753 at Stapleford in Nottinghamshire, the fourth son of a wealthy gentleman, John Borlase Warren, and of his wife, Bridget Rosell of Radcliffe-on-Trent. One son, John Borlase, went on to become a Vice-Admiral in the British navy. Sir John had extensive land holdings in Sillahertane, Kilgarvan, County Kerry where he held up to three thousand acres. Sir John Borlase Warren died just a few months after his brother on the 4 th of December 1863.
