Katatonia is a band formed in 1991 by Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström, who started as a death/doom metal project. The band evolved into a progressive rock and metal style, with several lineup changes and hiatuses over the years.
Katatonia (Catatonia) is a psychiatric condition often associated with schizophrenia. It is characterized by a general absence of motor activity or violent, hyperactive behavior. The word "catatonia" (κατατονία) is also a Greek word for low tone, undertone, or commonly down-tempo.
