Casey's Shadow is a 1978 Metrocolor sports drama film directed by Martin Ritt and starring Walter Matthau. The film is based on an article in The New Yorker by John McPhee ("Ruidoso", published April 29, 1974).
Horse trainer Lloyd Bourdelle (Walter Matthau) struggles to make a decent living for himself and his three sons. Their prize horse is thoroughbred foal Casey's Shadow, but the question is whether or not Lloyd can take advantage of the opportunity for bettering his lot afforded by Casey's Shadow.
