The Shadow of the Cat is a 1961 British horror film directed by John Gilling and starring André Morell and Barbara Shelley. It was photographed in black-and-white by Arthur Grant. Produced by Hammer Film Productions, it was released in May 1961 on a double feature bill with Curse of the Werewolf.

Shadow of the Cat is a Hammer film that takes obvious inspiration from Edgar Allen Poe. We begin with a scene that sees a woman reading "The Raven" to her cat. She's then murdered, under the watchful eye of said cat - leading us to a plot clearly inspired by The Black Cat.
Ella's pet cat witnesses the crime, and when the victim's niece Beth visits the family's Victorian mansion with newspaperman Michael Latimer, she discovers that the formerly placid animal is now a ferocious beast.
