The Yellow Sea, also known as North Sea, is a marginal sea of the Western Pacific Ocean located between mainland China and the Korean Peninsula, and can be considered the northwestern part of the East China Sea.

Yellow Sea, Chinese Huang Hai , Large inlet of the western North Pacific Ocean, between northeastern China and the Korean peninsula. Renowned for its fishing grounds, it connects with the East China Sea on the south; the Shandong Peninsula extends into it from the west.
The Yellow Sea Marine Ecoregion includes the Yellow Sea, Bohai Sea and part of the East China Sea. The Yellow Sea covers approximately 40,000km 2. Average depths are 60-80 metres. Some 1,600 species have been reported from the Sea's marine and coastal habitats, including 170 species of waterbirds.
